Some Free Scrapbook Lay Out Ideas from Creative Memories

    Free Scrapbooking Layouts

I was a Creative memories consultant for a while- its has been almost 5 years since I was consultant, but I do credit my introduction to them. I used to be quite snob about ONLY using their products and have since branched out. One thing they do do well is layouts. They have hundreds of FREE scrapbook layouts on their site.

    http://www.creativememories.com/MainMenu/Idea-Gallery/Design-Team-Ideas

They offer free layout ideas as well as card and gift tag ideas.
I am not sure why- but the gallery is all in flash ( dumb!) so I can;t link to specific layouts.

Scrapbooking: EASY-Make a Christmas Tree Using Square Punch

    tree

Free Scrapbook Idea: Easy Christmas Tree

This is a cute design for making a Christmas tree using a square punch. The design will fill an 8″ x11 scrapbook page and also makes a nice Christmas card. You can embellish or “decorate” the the tree with stickers, chalk or whatever!
I use a 1″ square punch but a little smaller or bigger is fine. Any scrapbook square punch is fine.
I used a Marvy Punch Square Extra Jumbo

To start of making your Christmas tree you will need:

10 squares punched from your choice of green card stock.
1 small square punched from your choice red cranberry card stock
2 small squares for presents from Christmas-y paper
Scrap of cards tock for the tree trunk.
Star and bow stickers or similar to decorate presents.

Starting at the top of the tree, stick down the first square in a diamond
shape. Keep layering over the top of the diamond above. The second row has
two squares, the third three and the bottom one four squares, and so on.

Finish off with tree trunk and presents.

Turn Your Own Hand Writing into a Font for Computer and MS Word

Very cool! Great for scrapbooks and “letter” writing. I know of two highly recommended sites, http://www.fontgod.com/ will turn your handwriting into your own personal True Type font for 29.95.

The pricier Also vletter.com is also a popular option.

9.00 will get you your own font at http://www.fontifier.com/
The personalized font is great to use in journal ling. I like the look and feel of handwritten writing in a scrapbook- but I know many who hate to do it and let fear of making a mistake stop them from journaling. getting your own personal font would be a great idea for some people- also very high cool factor!

If you have expericne with gettign your own fonts- let me know- post in comments section!

    Scrapbooking: Tips for Taking Photos

Yes- you can add scrapbooking to my list of craft obsessions! I started scrapbooking about 5 years ago- In fact I was a Creative Memories scrapbooking consultant for 2 years. I know have thousands of photographs and thousands of dollars worth of scrapbooking supplies. If you are new to scrapbooking then congratulations- you have found a rewarding life time obsession, er, hobby.

I do have some tips I will share form time to time. The first are some idea for taking great photos. A great scrapbook starts with great pictures. The principle are the same with both digital and film prints. Kodak has some great tips for taking good pictures
    1. Look your subject in the eye
    2. Use a plain background
    3. Use flash outdoors
    4. Move in close
    5. Move it from the middle
    6. Lock the focus
    7. Know your flash’s range
    8. Watch the light
    9. Take some vertical pictures
    10. Be a picture director

For in depth explanations- visit their site, Tips for Great Pictures

The best advice I ever got for taking great pictures of kids was to take shots up close- not to be far away. Its okay to just have a face in the frame- or a foot- or a chubby baby’s hand. Also-its almost impossible to take a bad black and white picture.

I advise all my preganant friends- get a camera with some black and white film in it to take to the hospital. The picture of your newborn baby will look beautiful and you will be shocked at how good you will look in black and white just after giving birth.
New baby pictures in black and white look incredible in a scrapbook album- especially on black pages.
