I came across this artist recently and need to post- Her work is GORGEOUS! she is graduate of prestigious Ontario College of Art and has been concentrating her talents on mosaic art for the last few years. Mosaic art uses pieces of precisely cut glass and arranged in pattern. It is time consuming and can be bit dangerous when cutting your own glass tile.
The artist uses many different types of glass- Smalti tile, made by mixing molten glass with metal oxides for color; stained glass tiles and ceramic tiles. While high quality materials are essential- the artists design and technique are what makes an ordinary design into something extraordinary. I have posted some of Marta Stewart’s designs below to give you an idea of her depth of talent. I especially Like her 5 Elements piece and the Forest Princess- Forest Princess would be a perfect piece to hang in a little girls room- the glass tile work has a lovely ethereal quality to it.
